Virtuoso – October 29, 2022

Christwood School just finished hosting its sixth annual western music competition – Virtuoso. During the two years of the pandemic, Virtuoso continued its run, although limited to just the piano competition. But this year, the singing and string categories were back, and the registrations reached an all time high of 410. The piano competition, never having seen a break in the last six years, has been steadily rising in the calibre that it sees every year, this year, 2022, being the highest yet. The singing competition showed some encouraging talent, and a couple of exceptionally gifted children. But the competition for the strings was the biggest surprise to the Christwood Virtuoso organisers and the judges alike. Experiencing western classical music by this youngsters was sheer delight.

Gracing the entire event with his presence was Mr. Augustine Paul. Mr. Clement Shasthriyar and Mr Fenny Daniel judged the categories in the competition for the strings, while Prof. Sherwood and Ms. Roshni Sharon scored the singers. Mr. John Pettigrew and Mr. Jeremiah together judged the piano competition. The judges of each competition were encouraging with their feedback and tips before the valedictory programme. We look forward to Virtuoso continuing to be a platform where young talent in western classical music, gain confidence, exposure and network with other young musicians like themselves
